Turmeric, in all honesty is not a vitamin, but it can certainly help boost your immune system. Of course, turmeric is a plant and in recent years has become very popular in the Spice Rack of modern kitchens.

The proper name for Turmeric is Zingiberaceae; it's a ginger family member and is also known as Curcuma.
It has not been extensively studied in humans, but animal research has been conducted for many years and they have shown this herb to have a number of beneficial medical properties, such as an immune stimulant, a useful treatment for arthritis, may also help prevent some forms of cancer, heart disease, liver disorders and prevention of cataracts.

In the kitchen, turmeric is used to give the curry yellow coloring; it has been used for this purpose for thousands of years by Indians in the preparation of meals. It was also prescribed by Chinese physicians for various medical problems

Most of the research that has been done on the benefits of turmeric has been done in India, because scientists from the west had never shown much interest in the grass, until more recent times, this research has shown that it can contribute to the prevention of the following diseases, injuries, it does have antibacterial properties, it has been effective against some strains of Salmonella, which causes food poisoning, it has anti-inflammatory effects which contributed pain associated with arthritis and because it contains antioxidants, it may assist in the prevention of cancer and cataract.

Turmeric, as I said, this is part of the Ginger family, which helps reduce cholesterol and blood pressure, animal studies have shown turmeric to have similar qualities.

Turmeric is listed as generally safe, and it should be taken only after medical consultation with a doctor, because of its blood thinning properties, it should not be taken with other blood thinning medications like vitamin E or anticoagulant prescribed.

It will not hurt taken in small amounts as you put in curries and other tasty dishes, large amounts taken could provide an upset stomach. Small normal amounts would be excellent for health, but take precautions and qualified advice for larger amounts medicinal.
